Meet the Storyteller – Sitawa Wafula

sitawaMy name is Sitawa Wafula

I am from Kenya

My 7 word autobiography is vegetarian, digital and nomadic mental health crusader

I have experience in running an award winning blog that gives information and support on mental health for people in Africa stemmed from my interest in the social and preventative aspects of mental health and living with a dual diagnosis of epilepsy and bipolar.

I want to share a story about seeing people with mental health conditions as people first of all and involving them in their treatment plans from the diagnosis to the medication they are given, hospitalization and discharge.

I joined the VOICES project because I believe there is a need for more positive mental health narratives especially from Africa and this project gives me a platform to amplify my voice and share it on a platform that can be tapped in by many more people who only see negativity when they think of mental health conditions and disability.

What was your favourite part of the first workshop?

The session with Nicole on crafting a story/creative writing

What are you hoping to learn from the project?

Plights of other people living with various disabilities across the globe and the unified approach to legal capacity that I can craft to suit our situation in Africa.
