I am a person with a disability and I want to get involved. How can I do that?

There are lots of ways to get involved from sharing your story to being a respondent to submitting a piece of art for one or our events or just joining the mailing list. You can find out more about all of these options at this link.

If you would like to share your story please remember that every story must relate to the central themes of exercising legal capacity, how to support people to exercise their legal capacity or individual experiences of having one’s legal capacity restricted or denied.

We know that many people with lived experience of disability also have important professional knowledge. We welcome the involvement of people with disabilities as either storytellers or respondents.

Can I have more than one role in the project?

Of course! Lots of people may identify with more than one role in the project. You are welcome to both share your story and be a respondent to someone else and submit some art. However, we ask that each person only takes on one role that will be included in the final publication.

Why do you use the term ‘person with a disability’?

We know that this is not a term that everyone identifies or agrees with. Some people would prefer to use the terms self experience and lived experience to describe themselves. We chose to use disability and person with a disability as we believe it captures the broad range of people who could be involved in the project. This includes people with an intellectual disability, autism, dementia or an acquired brain injury.
